The Tyn y Fron was a very late endeavor by the miners to get to the copper ore that was at the lower levels of the vein. The Ty Gwyn adit was dug to connect with this major shaft.
At present the only way to explore this part of the mine is via an abseil of 270 foot to the adit portal, below this is water, reputed to extend down another 300 foot.
